Registration for the 2017-18 school year begins today in the Ottumwa School District.
Not only is the date different than in past years, but no longer will parents fill out multiple forms the traditional way, with pencil and paper. The district has transitioned to electronic registration. Parents will only have to enter their basic information once. Then if an address or phone number changes, parents can go in any time to update their account information.
From today through August 15, parents of existing students can get online at their convenience and register. Kindergarten students and students new to the Ottumwa district should register at their school on Aug. 14 and 15 between 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. But the process begins with setting up a parent account.
Since February, the district has been working with parents to set up their account in PowerSchool, the district's student information system. Parents can do this at home by following instructions posted on the district website under Parents. Using a cell phone to set up the parent account is not recommended. Computers will be available for parents to use in early August at each school. There are also computers available for public use at the Ottumwa Public Library.
