Representatives from several schools across the Ottumwa district attended a Connections Matter® training Wednesday, January 24 at GPAEA. Connections Matter® is an evidence-based awareness and engagement tool developed in response to the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) research study.
This course is designed to help professionals working in school environments create successful trauma-informed education practices. Participants will be able to better recognize risk factors associated with adverse childhood experiences; develop skills to mitigate the impact of trauma on classroom behavior and learning; and gain classroom strategies when working with students.
Another training will be offered on Feb. 1 for the remaining schools.
