A student at Evans Middle School brought a BB gun and two knives to school today. The weapons were confiscated and law enforcement was contacted. The student has been charged and school personnel are addressing the situation per board policy.
According to district board policy 502.6 on weapons, “Parents of students found to possess weapons, dangerous objects or look-a-likes on school property are notified of the incident. Possession or confiscation of weapons or dangerous objects will be reported to law enforcement officials, and students will be subject to disciplinary action including suspension or expulsion.”
The student, whose name is being withheld due to confidentiality policies, is not attending school at this time. “The Evans administrative staff took swift action when notified of the situation,” said Superintendent Nicole Kooiker. “Safety is our number one focus.”
