Art Show Supports Food Efforts

A group of students from Ottumwa High School's Accelerated Career Academy will host an art show, "Art: Feeding the Soul"  on Friday, March 2 from 6-8 p.m. at the Anomaly Gallery, located at 105 N. Court in Ottumwa. Artwork will be for sale. All proceeds will be donated to the Food Bank of Southern Iowa.

The event is part of the school's Community Service Learning component of the Teen Outreach Program. Students have done a variety of projects throughout the year to benefit their community, including:

  • Put together over 100 Blessing Bags that were donated to Blessing Soup Kitchen to be passed out to the homeless and less fortunate. The bags included hygiene products such as shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste etc.
  • Made We Care Kits that were given to pediatric patients at ORHC. The kits included homemade play-doh, coloring books, crayons and puzzles.
  • Coat drive and wrote letters to children posing as Santa's elves during the holiday season.

The art show is the final srvice project of the year. Students will have seven weeks to produce art from several mediums. Their art will be displayed at the Anomaly Art Gallery on March 2. All art work is available for purchase, with all proceeds going to the Food Bank of Iowa.
