Ottumwa Schools will participate in a Conditions of Learning Survey in May. This survey is linked to Iowa's Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and will measure student perceptions around safety, engagement, and the overall learning environment. The survey will be administered annually and can be used by a school building to identify their strengths and weaknesses, according to Sarah McGlothlen, Director of Elementary Education. She presented information on the survey to the Board of Education during their regular meeting on April 9.
The survey is administered in the spring to allow students time to experience and assess their learning environment. The data generated will be timely and can be used to align professional development with the needs of students.
The survey will be given to students in grades 5-12 between May 14 and 25 in the Ottumwa district.
