Jazz and Show Choirs Perform at Sweets & Sounds

The Ottumwa middle and high school jazz bands and show choirs will host Sweets & Sounds on Monday, January 29 at Ottumwa High School. Desserts will be served at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m.  Admission is $5 per student and $7 per adult.

Jazz band and show choir are extracurricular activities within the Ottumwa fine arts department. Students are required to participate in band to be eligible for jazz band. High school students audition to participate and rehearse outside the school day in these groups. The high-energy high school show choir competition performance is approximately 18 minutes long, featuring five songs with choreography and costume changes.  They will compete in several invitationals in February and March.

In its sixth year, Evans Show Choir rehearses two days each week with extra rehearsals on Saturdays for choreography. Students must be members of the Evans concert band or choir to participate.  Performances include Sweets & Sounds, the annual Pops concert, and a performance at Liberty Elementary School.

The annual Sweets & Sounds event is sponsored by John Deere Ottumwa Works, Kohl’s, Ottumwa Noon Kiwanis, and Community 1st Credit Union.
