School Efforts Recognized at Assembly

Principal Sievertsen recognizes students involved in leading efforts to raise money for hurricane relief.

An all-school assembly on Monday was a time to celebrate at Liberty Elementary.

Representatives from the Iowa Department of Education were on hand to recognized the school's efforts in the area of food service and physical activity. The school was recently designated as a Silver School in the HealthierUs School Challenge initiative. Principal Sievertsen also shared with students that a grant from Delta Dental will result in the installation of a water bottle filling station this week. Each student will receive a free water bottle and toothbrush.

Sievertsen also talked about efforts by the fifth grade to support hurricane relief. Students hosted a painting party and hat day to raise money. Almost $2,000 will be sent to support an elementary school in Marathon, Fl.

The assembly concluded with a vocal performance by the third graders.
