This morning, Ottumwa High School participated in a lock-down drill. During the drill, students were kept in their classrooms and instruction continued. The lock-down lasted for approximately 30 minutes. Unannounced drills are an important part of emergency preparedness and readiness for students, staff, administrators, and community agencies.
During the lock-down, local law enforcement agencies also conducted a routine search of common areas at Ottumwa High School. This served as an opportunity to ensure a drug-free school environment. K9 Units from Keokuk and Henry Counties joined Ottumwa Police and School Administrators in this routine exercise.
