Vice president of the Ottumwa Board of Education, Alex Barr, resigned this morning. In his statement, he said, “Please accept this as my official resignation from the Ottumwa Community School Board. I apologize to everyone associated with the Ottumwa Community School district, citizens, family, friends and especially those who supported me at the ballot box in September. I deliberated regarding this decision with family and close friends. At this point in time I would like to dedicate more time to address my personal situation and focus on self-improvement. I will continue to be an avid supporter of the Ottumwa Community School District in many ways, and wish all the current board members well. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
Board President, Leisa Walker, released the following: "Alex sent me his resignation this morning. I believe it was the correct decision both for Alex personally and for our board. This has been a difficult few weeks for everyone. I want to thank Alex for his service to our school district and appreciate his pledged future support of Ottumwa Community Schools."
