New Preschool has a Name

New Preschool has a Name

The district held a ground breaking ceremony for the new preschool in August.

Pickwick Early Childhood Center, the name for the new preschool, was approved by the Board of Education at Monday's meeting.

The process of selecting a name involved community input, staff involvement, and finally board approval.

Over 70 suggestions were made by the community. Current preschool staff helped to narrow that list to six, which were sent to elementary principals. The list again was narrowed to the top two choices, which were presented to the board for approval. Nancy Manson, board member, said that no matter the name, the school would always be referred to as "being located at the former Pickwick School site." She thought it made sense to incorprate Pickwick into the name.

The name passed 7-0.
