Welcome to Liberty Elementary

Dear Families,

On behalf of the entire Liberty Elementary family, welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! This year is shaping up to be very unique.  Our Liberty family is ready to make this year the best year yet.  We look forward to working collaboratively with you to ensure that your child is achieving his/her full potential in and out of the classroom. We know how important the school and home partnership is to the success of every student.  You can assist us by:

  • Help us by ensuring your child arrives to school on time and ready to learn. The building is open for students at 7:40 a.m. and classes start at 8:10 a.m.
  • Successful students complete all assignments given by teachers.
  • As parents, please talk with your child about what he/she learned that day and any upcoming assignments.
  • Remember to speak positively to your child about the importance of education and their power to achieve.

One of our main concerns for all of our children is their safety. Safety is front and center as we consider everything we need to do to be safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.  We have rules and procedures in place that we feel will lead to a safe learning environment for all. Our day is organized to allow for social distancing while still considering the physical needs of our children.  We have a top notch maintenance team working in partnership with our teachers and support staff to keep all areas of the building clean and sanitized.  We are limiting visitors at this time, please make an appointment if you need to speak with any Liberty staff.

It is our mission at Liberty Elementary School as a part of the Ottumwa School District to Engage, Educate and Empower Every Student Every Day. Partner with us to make this mission a reality! Here's to a great school year!

Steve Zimmerman,
Associate Principal
