Attention all inventors! The local Invention Convention will be held Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Liberty Elementary from 5:30-8PM. If needed, the snow date for this event will be Thursday, February 6, same time and place. All Ottumwa Community School District students in grades K-8 are invited to participate in the convention. Those participating must create a simple, working invention and tri-fold poster, along with students in grades 3-8 will be required to create a logbook documenting their work.
To sign up for this event, please talk with the secretary in your school office. There will be a rules sheet in both English and Spanish, an entry form, logbook, and a tips sheet to help you that will be available in the school office, for those interested, starting November 25. Entry forms are due back into the office to sign up and secure your spot for the event by 3:15PM on Thursday, January 23.
For the second year, any child in grades K-5 who signs up for the event AND attends that evening with all of the necessary requirements (for grades K-2: a poster and invention; for grades 3-8: a poster, log book, and invention) will have their name put in a drawing to win ONE OF TWO FREE scholarships to a summer STEM camp in partnership with the Ottumwa CSD and Camp Invention ($235 value). Camp Invention will be held at Evans Middle School from July 6th-10th (9AM-3:30PM each day). More information about this camp can be found at: https://www.invent.org/programs/camp-invention.
If you have further questions about the event, please contact the coordinator, Breanna Hinmon at Liberty Elementary at 641-682-4502 or at [email protected]. Have fun inventing!
