About School Meals and Nutrition Goals
School meals are planned to include the appropriate servings of meat/meat alternate, breads/grains, fruits/vegetables, and milk. Meals are set-up as offer versus served, which means the student above Kindergarten, must select at least 3 and no more than 5 of the meal components offered. Menus must follow guidelines set by the federal government and must meet nutritional goals when averaged over a school week.
Breakfast is served daily in each building beginning as early as 7:45 am. We encourage you to support your student’s school breakfast program. Check with your child’s school for specific serving times. Breakfast menu’s are included with the lunch menu.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provide all children in participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day. It is an effective and creative way of introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options. The FFVP also encourages schools to develop partnerships at the State and local level for support in implementing and operating the program. James, Liberty, and Wilson Elementary Schools participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant Program.
Substitutions for specific foods are allowed only when supported by a statement from a recognized medical authority. If a student needs a substitution for any item, such as in the case of a food allergy, they must have a medical note from their doctor. This medical note must be updated annually and submitted to the school nurse
