Douma Elementary School was selected as a 2018-2019 Imagine Learning Beacon School.
"Douma finds significant value in The Imagine Learning program," said Amy Taylor, principal. "Teachers appreciate the ability to offer indivdualized adaptive literacy instruction in a manner that is highly engaging. The data and support lessons also are very helpful to teachers as they plan for classroom instruction. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to offer Imagine Learning to all students at Douma Elementary."
The school was nominated based on above-and-beyond enthusiasm and innovative use of an Imagine Learning program. Joyce McArthur-Johnson, the Imagine Learning Area Partnership Manager, was at Douma on Wednesday, June 5 to present the award. "We recognize that this achievement would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of many administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents. At Imagine Learning, we congratulate you on your high level of commitment, enthusiasm, and educational innovation," said Jeremy Cowdrey and Bryan Sparks, co-presidents of Imagine Learning in a congratulatory email to Douma Principal, Amy Taylor.
Imagine Learning is a research-based, standards-aligned curriculum that buildings core reading and academic language skills. Ottumwa uses this computer-aided program in grades K-3. Parents also have access to this tool at home to supplement the learning.
