KidAccount

The safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority. Ottumwa Schools uses KIDaccount to help ensure every student is accounted for throughout the school day and to support a quick, coordinated response in the event of an emergency. This system provides an added layer of safety, giving families confidence that our schools are prepared to protect and care for every child, every day.

In addition to student accountability, KIDaccount is used to manage staff and visitor check-in during the school day. All staff and visitors check in and out through the system, providing an accurate, real-time record of who is in each building. In the event of an emergency, this allows school administrators and first responders to quickly identify who is in the building and where they are, supporting a faster, more informed response.

The Ottumwa Community School District uses KIDaccount alongside the I Love U Guys Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to help keep our schools safe and prepared. Together, these systems improve communication, accountability, and emergency response, while supporting an organized and efficient reunification process should an emergency occur.

Visitor Check-In with the KIDaccount Parent App

The KIDaccount Parent App provides a secure and convenient way for parents, guardians, and other visitors to check in and out of Ottumwa Schools during school hours using a digital ID. The app integrates seamlessly with the district's KIDaccount system, helping maintain an accurate, real-time record of who is in each building. This added layer of accountability enhances school safety and supports a quick, coordinated response in the event of an emergency.

Douma, Fahrney, and James Elementary KIDaccount Cards

The following information applies to students at Douma Elementary, Fahrney Elementary, and James Elementary Schools only.

Douma Elementary, Fahrney Elementary, and James Elementary students will receive two KIDaccount identification cards. Each card includes a unique barcode that helps make the dismissal process safer and more efficient. When a parent or guardian arrives, the barcode is scanned by school staff, automatically notifying the classroom that the student's ride has arrived. Students are then assisted to the appropriate vehicle for pickup.

Please keep your KIDaccount cards throughout your child's elementary years at Douma, Fahrney, or James. Cards issued last school year remain active and do not need to be replaced. If you no longer have your cards, replacement cards are available for $1 each. Additional cards may also be purchased for $1 each through your child's school. If you have questions or need replacement cards, please contact your school office.

Please notify your child's classroom teacher of any dismissal plans. The easiest way to communicate dismissal changes is by sending a message through Ottumwa Schools Connect (ParentSquare).
